How Many Messages Can I Send Per Day on WhatsApp Business?

How Many Messages Can I Send Per Day on WhatsApp Business?

If you run a local shop and have 500, 1,000 or even 5,000 customers, one question comes naturally:

“How many WhatsApp messages can I send every day?”

The answer is not one fixed number.

For normal one-to-one chats in the WhatsApp Business app, WhatsApp does not publish a simple rule saying every shop can send exactly X messages per day. Broadcasts, business broadcasts and the WhatsApp Business Platform have different rules and limits.

So if someone tells you, “Every WhatsApp Business account can send exactly 1,000 messages daily,” don't take that as a universal rule.

I am Abhinav Jain, one of the founders of Vizbe.com, a Noida-based platform built for local retailers and shoppers. For me, the more useful question isn't only how many messages you can send.

It is:

How many useful messages can you send without making customers ignore your shop?

Is There a Daily Limit on Normal WhatsApp Business Messages?

For ordinary conversations where you are manually chatting with customers, WhatsApp's public guidance does not give every WhatsApp Business App user one universal daily message number.

If a customer asks:

“Do you have this shirt in XL?”

and you reply, that's a normal business conversation.

A shop can have many such conversations during the day.

But this shouldn't be confused with sending the same promotional message to hundreds of people.

WhatsApp has separate systems and restrictions for broadcasts and business marketing.

What About WhatsApp Broadcast Lists?

Traditional WhatsApp broadcast lists let you send one message to several contacts.

According to WhatsApp, you can have up to 256 contacts in each broadcast list, and you can create multiple lists.

But there is a big condition:

The recipient needs to have your number saved in their phone contacts to receive a traditional broadcast message.

This is where local shops often face a problem.

Imagine a clothing shop in Jaipur has collected 2,000 customer mobile numbers.

The shop has saved all 2,000 numbers.

But maybe only 300 customers have actually saved the shop's number.

Having 2,000 numbers doesn't automatically mean your broadcast will reach all 2,000 people.

WhatsApp Is Also Introducing Broadcast Limits

WhatsApp says that people in some countries may see a monthly broadcast limit. This feature is being rolled out gradually and may not be available everywhere.

This is another reason I would not write a fixed number like:

“You can send 500 messages every day.”

That may be wrong for another account, country or feature.

Check your own WhatsApp Business account because the tools available to you can differ.

Business Broadcasts Can Also Be Paid

WhatsApp has also been rolling out a newer feature called business broadcasts in some countries.

WhatsApp says this feature isn't available to everyone yet. Where message packs apply, businesses pre-pay for message credits and one credit is used for each recipient who receives the broadcast.

For example, if a broadcast is delivered to 50 recipients, 50 message credits are used.

WhatsApp says businesses can check the latest message-pack pricing from inside the Business app where the feature is available.

Some accounts may still see the older marketing messages feature. WhatsApp says those messages are charged based on messages delivered, and availability remains limited.

So bulk WhatsApp marketing is no longer something I would simply describe as:

“Free unlimited messages to every customer.”

Don't Try to Find the Maximum Number You Can Push

Suppose you have a footwear shop in Pune.

You discover that your account lets you send a large number of promotional messages.

Should you?

Not necessarily.

If you send:

Monday — New shoes!

Tuesday — SALE!

Wednesday — Visit today!

Thursday — Special offer!

Friday — Another sale!

your customers may stop caring.

WhatsApp says businesses need permission for business chats containing offers and announcements, and customers can stop chatting with or block a business.

WhatsApp can also ban Business accounts that violate its policies, including for spam.

More messages don't automatically mean more sales.

Send the Right Message to the Right Customer

This is where I think small retailers should change their thinking.

Don't ask:

“How can I send 5,000 messages?”

Ask:

“Which customers actually need this message?”

Suppose a sports shop in Bengaluru receives new cricket shoes.

A customer who previously asked about cricket products might be interested.

Someone who only purchased a yoga mat two years ago may not be.

Relevant communication feels useful.

Random communication feels like spam.

Use WhatsApp for Conversations

WhatsApp is very good when the customer wants to talk with you.

A customer may ask:

“Is this available?”

“What is the price?”

“Can you keep one for me?”

“What time do you close?”

That's where WhatsApp makes a lot of sense.

Use WhatsApp Business for customer conversations, product questions and useful updates.

But don't make sending promotional messages your entire marketing plan.

Messaging Existing Customers Is Only Half the Job

Here is the bigger problem.

Imagine a cosmetics store in Hyderabad has 600 WhatsApp contacts.

Those contacts are useful.

But thousands of potential customers live around that shop.

They aren't in the shop's contact list.

They don't have the shop's WhatsApp number.

How will the shop reach them?

Sending another broadcast to the same 600 contacts doesn't solve that problem.

Your local shop needs to do two jobs:

Retain existing customers AND attract new customers.

That is where Vizbe takes a different approach.

Vizbe – Check Online. Buy Offline.

At Vizbe, our thinking starts with the local shopping journey.

A buyer should be able to discover local shops and check what they have online.

Then visit the physical shop to purchase.

We call this:

Check Online. Buy Offline.

The goal isn't to replace your physical shop.

The goal is to use digital tools to bring more people to it.

Vizbe for Sellers App – For Local Shops & Businesses

The Vizbe for Sellers App is built around local retailers.

A shop can create its online presence, add products, publish deals, offer cashback, connect with buyers and communicate with them.

So you aren't limited to sending a promotional text.

Your customers can actually see what you're promoting.

A clothing retailer in Chandigarh can add the new collection.

A buyer checks it online.

If they like something, they can visit the physical shop.

That's a much stronger shopping journey than simply sending:

“New stock available. Visit today.”

Showcase Products Instead of Only Talking About Them

Think about these two messages.

Message 1:

“New handbags available.”

Message 2:

A customer sees the actual handbags, checks the products and then decides whether to visit.

Which feels more useful?

I prefer the second.

Vizbe for Sellers lets shops list products so customers can check what's available before coming to the store.

This is what Check Online. Buy Offline. really means.

Create Deals That Give Buyers a Reason to Visit

Deals can also help turn online attention into shop visits.

Suppose your store in Lucknow has a weekend offer.

Create the deal on Vizbe.

Interested shoppers can see the offer and then visit the physical store.

Your digital marketing now has a clear purpose:

More relevant store visits.

Cashback Can Bring Existing Customers Back

Customer retention matters just as much as getting new buyers.

Vizbe lets sellers create cashback offers that can give customers a reason to return.

Instead of repeatedly sending:

“Please visit again.”

you can give the buyer a real benefit connected with another purchase.

That's much closer to how I think local-shop marketing should work.

Bulk Messaging on Vizbe

Vizbe for Sellers also includes bulk messaging for connected buyers.

This gives shops another channel for useful customer communication without making WhatsApp the centre of every business message.

If you have a new collection, deal or store update, you can communicate with your connected customers.

The aim isn't unlimited messaging.

It is better business communication.

Vizbe for Shopping App – For Buyers

The Vizbe for Shopping App is the buyer side.

Shoppers can use Vizbe to discover local stores, products, deals and cashback offers.

That means the relationship doesn't always need to start with the shop already having someone's phone number.

A shopper can start by discovering something they want.

Then the digital journey can lead them to the local store.

That's the gap Vizbe is trying to fill.

So, How Many WhatsApp Messages Should My Shop Send?

There isn't one universal daily number that works for every WhatsApp Business feature or every account.

Traditional broadcast lists allow up to 256 contacts per list, but recipients need your number saved, and WhatsApp says monthly broadcast limits are being rolled out in some places. Newer business broadcasts can also involve paid message credits.

So don't build your marketing around chasing a maximum message count.

Build it around customers.

Use WhatsApp when people want to communicate with you.

Use Vizbe to put your shop, products, deals and cashback in front of shoppers and stay connected with buyers.

Then let online discovery do what a local retailer actually needs:

Bring people into the physical shop.
