Can I Send Promotional Messages to All My Customers on WhatsApp?

Can I Send Promotional Messages to All My Customers on WhatsApp?

Yes, WhatsApp Business gives shops ways to send promotional or business messages to multiple customers, but you should not simply message every phone number you have.

There are rules, delivery limits and customer-permission requirements. WhatsApp is also changing how business broadcasts work, with paid business-broadcast features rolling out in some markets.

This is something local shop owners should understand before building their whole customer-retention plan around WhatsApp.

I am Abhinav Jain, one of the founders of Vizbe.com, a Noida-based platform built around local shops and local shopping.

I often hear a simple question from retailers:

“I have hundreds of customer numbers. Why can't I just send everyone my sale message?”

The answer is more complicated than it looks.

How Do WhatsApp Broadcast Messages Work?

WhatsApp has broadcast features that allow you to send one message to many customers.

With traditional broadcast lists, recipients receive your message as an individual chat. If a customer replies, the reply comes privately to you rather than everyone on the list.

Sounds perfect for a shop.

But there is a catch.

For standard broadcast lists, WhatsApp says the customer needs to have your business number saved in their phone contacts to receive your broadcast message. A broadcast list can contain up to 256 contacts.

So imagine a footwear store in Jaipur has 1,000 customer numbers.

Having those numbers doesn't automatically mean the shop can successfully reach all 1,000 people through a normal WhatsApp broadcast.

WhatsApp Business Broadcasts Are Changing

WhatsApp is also rolling out newer business broadcasts, which may appear as marketing messages in some countries or accounts.

These tools are not necessarily free.

WhatsApp's current Help Center says businesses can pay for business broadcasts, and message packs are being gradually introduced in some places. One message credit is used for each recipient who receives a broadcast when that system applies.

WhatsApp also says some marketing-message features charge businesses for messages that are delivered. Availability can vary by country and account.

So don't assume the feature and pricing you see today will always remain the same.

Check what is actually available inside your WhatsApp Business account.

Can I Upload My Customer List?

WhatsApp has also added tools for some businesses to import contacts.

Its current Business App help documentation says businesses can upload a CSV or XLSX spreadsheet through WhatsApp Business on the web to create a broadcast audience.

This can make managing a large customer database easier.

But having someone's mobile number and having permission to send them marketing messages are not the same thing.

That difference matters.

Don't Send Promotions Without Customer Permission

This is probably the most important part of this article.

A person buying something from your shop doesn't mean you should automatically start sending them unlimited promotional messages.

WhatsApp says businesses need permission for business chats containing offers and announcements, and users remain able to stop conversations or block businesses.

WhatsApp also takes action against spam and businesses that violate its Business Messaging policies. Accounts that break the rules can face restrictions or bans.

So I would never suggest buying a list of random mobile numbers and sending your shop offer to everyone.

Build a real customer connection instead.

Too Many Messages Can Hurt Your Shop

There is another problem that has nothing to do with technical rules.

Think like your customer.

You wake up and see family messages.

Office messages.

School messages.

Friends.

Groups.

Then:

SALE! SALE! SALE!

from one shop.

Then another shop.

Then another.

What happens?

People start ignoring the messages.

Some may block the business.

A local shop owner in Mumbai once described the problem to me in a very simple way: getting the customer's number was easy; getting the customer to actually care about the next message was much harder.

That's the real problem.

Sending a message is not the same as getting attention.

Send Useful Messages, Not Just More Messages

If you are using WhatsApp for promotions, don't send something every day just because you can.

Send messages when you actually have something useful.

For example, you may have a genuine weekend deal, a new collection customers have been waiting for, a festival offer or an important stock update.

Keep the message short.

Tell the customer what the offer is.

Tell them when it ends.

Tell them what they should do next.

And respect customers who don't want promotional communication.

A smaller list of interested customers can be far more useful than thousands of people who ignore you.

But WhatsApp Is Still Mainly About Messaging

This brings us to the bigger problem for local retailers.

Sending promotional messages is only one part of growing a shop.

Your shop also needs people to discover it.

Customers need to see your products.

They need to find your deals.

You want old customers to return.

And you want new nearby shoppers to find you.

A messaging app alone doesn't solve all of these jobs.

For example, WhatsApp's own Business Directory for discovering businesses is currently available only in supported regions of Brazil, according to WhatsApp's Help Center.

So a buyer sitting near your store in India may not naturally discover your shop simply because you created a WhatsApp Business account.

That is one of the reasons we built Vizbe differently.

Vizbe – Check Online. Buy Offline.

Vizbe is designed around the local shopping journey.

The idea is not simply:

Shop → sends promotional message → Customer

It is:

Buyer discovers shop → Checks products → Finds deals → Connects → Visits shop → Buys → Returns again

That is why our tagline is:

Check Online. Buy Offline.

Your digital activity should eventually help your physical shop.

Vizbe for Sellers App – For Local Shops & Businesses

The Vizbe for Sellers App is made for local retailers.

A seller can create their shop presence, add products, create deals and cashback offers, connect with buyers and communicate with connected customers.

Suppose a clothing store in Ahmedabad gets a new summer collection.

Instead of only sending a message saying:

“New collection available.”

The shop can also put those products online.

Customers can actually check them.

That makes the message more useful.

Bulk Messaging for Connected Buyers

Vizbe for Sellers also includes bulk messaging for connected buyers.

This is an area where we wanted to keep things simple for local retailers.

You shouldn't need to understand APIs just to tell your customers that your shop has a new offer.

You can communicate with your connected customers through Vizbe and use those messages alongside your products, deals and other shop activity.

The purpose isn't to send more spam.

The purpose is to send useful business updates to people connected with your shop.

Products Give Your Message Something to Show

Imagine you own a fashion store in Bengaluru.

You send:

“New shirts have arrived.”

Okay.

But what if the buyer could actually check those shirts online?

That is much more useful.

Vizbe lets sellers list products so shoppers can see what a local store offers.

A buyer can check online and then visit the physical store to purchase.

That is the online-to-offline model we want local shops to use.

Deals Can Create a Reason to Visit Today

A normal promotional message can easily be forgotten.

A deal gives the buyer a more specific reason to act.

Suppose your electronics shop in Hyderabad has a weekend offer.

Create the deal.

Let buyers check it.

Then bring interested customers into your physical store.

Your online promotion now has a clear destination:

Your shop.

Cashback Can Bring Existing Customers Back

Promotions aren't only about getting new customers.

Repeat customers matter a lot for local shops.

Vizbe lets sellers create cashback offers designed to encourage customers to return.

Someone buys today.

They have a reason to come back later.

For me, that is more useful than thinking only about how many promotional messages you can send.

The bigger question is:

How many customers can you bring back?

Vizbe for Shopping App – For Buyers

On the other side is the Vizbe for Shopping App.

This is made for buyers.

People can use Vizbe to discover local stores, check products, see deals and find cashback offers.

Someone looking for something in Delhi, Pune, Chennai or Lucknow can first check local shopping options online.

Then visit the shop.

The phone helps with discovery.

The physical store handles the shopping.

Check Online. Buy Offline.

WhatsApp or Vizbe? Use Each for the Right Job

I don't think local retailers need to stop using WhatsApp Business.

WhatsApp can be very useful when customers want to communicate with your shop.

Use it.

But don't depend on WhatsApp alone for your whole digital retail strategy.

Your business needs more than a chat window.

You need products, deals, customer retention, local discovery and a way to turn online attention into offline visits.

That is where Vizbe is different.

If you want to start building that connection between your online presence and physical shop, try the Vizbe for Sellers App.

Install Vizbe for Sellers App on Google Play

Don't ask only:

“How many customers can I message?”

Ask:

“How many customers can I get to visit my shop and come back again?”
